Red or yellow: what is the difference?

When a safety light stays dark at start-up

Safety lights such as the ABS and SRS airbag warning lights should come on briefly when you start the vehicle. Toyota warns that if one of them does not come on (Toyota's wording: when you start the hybrid system), those systems may not be available to help protect you in an accident, which Toyota says could result in death or serious injury. Toyota's instruction is to have the vehicle inspected by a Toyota dealer immediately if this happens.

Toyota warning lights FAQ

Which Toyota warning lights mean stop driving?

Toyota's instruction for the high coolant temperature light is to stop the vehicle in a safe place immediately. For the Unengaged Park warning light and the air suspension malfunction light, Toyota says to have the vehicle inspected by a Toyota dealer immediately.

Is a yellow light on my Toyota dashboard a warning?

Not necessarily. Toyota says yellow icons indicate an item of importance, such as low fuel. Red icons indicate a condition that needs immediate attention, such as an open door or low engine oil pressure.

Why is the master warning light flashing?

A buzzer sounds and the master warning light flashes when the master warning system has detected a malfunction. Check the Multi-Information Display and your owner's manual for the message that goes with it.

My tire pressure light came on. What does it mean?

Toyota says it means low tire inflation pressure, or a malfunction in the tire pressure warning system. Have the pressures and the system checked; our service team in Fox Lake can do it.

What does the security indicator do?

It shows the engine immobilizer system is operating. Toyota keys have transponder chips that stop the engine from starting with a key that has not been registered to the vehicle.
