What tire pressure should a Toyota Corolla have?

Toyota's 2026 Corolla owner's manual lists a recommended cold tire inflation pressure of 33 psi (230 kPa) front and 30 psi (210 kPa) rear for the 195/65R15 and 225/40R18 tires, and 35 psi (240 kPa) front and 33 psi (230 kPa) rear for the 205/55R16 tire. The compact spare is 60 psi (420 kPa). Confirm the figures on the tire and loading information label on your car.

From the "Tires and wheels" specifications in Toyota's 2026 Corolla Owner's Manual (OM02751U), pages 389-390, read November 4, 2026. The manual lists each tire and wheel combination as Type A to C; it gives every type the same 60 psi (420 kPa) compact spare and a wheel nut torque of 76 ft-lbf (103 N-m). The 2026 manual OM12W27U and the 2027 Corolla Owner's Manual (OM02735U) list the same values.

Use the pressures on your Corolla's label

The Corolla does not use one number for all four tires: on every tire size in the manual, the front pressure is higher than the rear. The 15-inch and 18-inch tires are 33 psi front and 30 psi rear, and the 16-inch tire is 35 psi front and 33 psi rear. The specifications table does not tie those types to a trim, so the simplest way to know which applies to your car is the tire and loading information label. The manual says the recommended cold tire inflation pressure and tire size are displayed on that label.

The manual also says not to use tire sizes other than those recommended by Toyota. For the low profile 18-inch tires, it says to be sure to use proper tire inflation pressure, because under-inflated tires may be damaged more severely by impacts from the road surface.

How to check Corolla tire pressure

The owner's manual says to check tire inflation pressure every two weeks, or at least once a month, and not to forget the spare. Check only when the tires are cold: if the car has been parked for at least 3 hours or has not been driven more than 1 mile (1.5 km), you will get an accurate cold reading. Always use a tire pressure gauge, because it is difficult to judge inflation based only on appearance.

  1. Remove the tire valve cap.
  2. Press the tip of the tire pressure gauge onto the tire valve.
  3. Read the pressure using the gauge gradations.
  4. If the pressure is not at the recommended level, adjust it. If you add too much air, press the center of the valve to deflate.
  5. After measuring and adjusting, apply soapy water to the valve and check for leakage.
  6. Put the tire valve cap back on.

The manual says it is normal for pressure to be higher after driving because heat is generated in the tire, and not to reduce pressure after driving. It lists what incorrect pressure can lead to: reduced fuel economy, reduced driving comfort and poor handling, reduced tire life due to wear, reduced safety and damage to the drive train. If a tire needs frequent inflating, the manual says to have it checked by your Toyota dealer.

The tire pressure warning light

On Corollas with a tire pressure warning system, tire pressure warning valves and transmitters detect low pressure. The manual describes a 2-type warning:

"Adjust Pressure" (normal warning)

The light comes on with a buzzer for low pressure from natural air leakage or from pressure changes with the outside temperature. After the tires have cooled, check each tire and adjust them to the specified level.

"Immediately Check Tire when Safe"

The emergency warning is for pressure lowering suddenly. The manual notes the system may not be able to detect sudden tire ruptures. Inspect the tires and, if a tire is punctured, follow the flat tire steps in the manual.

Light blinks for about 1 minute, then stays on

This may mean a malfunction in the tire pressure warning system. The manual says to have the vehicle inspected by your Toyota dealer immediately.

From the 2026 Corolla Owner's Manual (OM02751U), pages 310-311 and 356, read November 4, 2026. The manual says the pressures shown on the multi-information display may differ from a tire gauge reading, and that the system does not replace routine pressure checks. The compact spare has no tire pressure warning valve and transmitter, so if a flat tire is replaced with the spare, the light will not turn off.

After rotating, replacing or re-inflating tires

The manual says to register the position of each wheel after a tire rotation. Park in a safe place, wait for approximately 20 minutes, then start the engine and select "Vehicle Settings", then "TPWS setting", then "Tire Rotation" on the multi-information display. Registration then completes as you drive straight, with occasional left and right turns, at approximately 25 mph (40 km/h) or more for approximately 10 to 30 minutes.

When tires or wheels are replaced, tire pressure warning valves and transmitters must also be installed, and new ID codes must be registered; the manual says to have the ID codes registered by your Toyota dealer, and to contact your dealer when removing or fitting wheels, tires or the valves and transmitters.

Per pages 314-315 of the 2026 manual, under "Tire Pressure Setting" you can set the system by choosing a specified pressure, or by the current pressure when you run something other than the specified pressure, such as tires of a different size. Either way, the manual says to adjust each tire to the appropriate level first. When the setting starts, the tire pressure warning light slowly blinks 3 times.

Toyota Corolla tire pressure FAQ

What is the recommended tire pressure for a Toyota Corolla?

It depends on the tire. Toyota's 2026 Corolla owner's manual lists recommended cold tire inflation pressures of 33 psi (230 kPa) front and 30 psi (210 kPa) rear for the 15-inch 195/65R15 and 18-inch 225/40R18 tires, and 35 psi (240 kPa) front and 33 psi (230 kPa) rear for the 16-inch 205/55R16 tire. The compact spare is 60 psi (420 kPa). Your car's tire and loading information label shows the figure for your tires.

Why are the Corolla's front and rear pressures different?

That is how Toyota specifies them. For every Corolla tire size in the 2026 and 2027 owner's manuals, the recommended cold pressure is higher in front than in the rear (33/30 psi or 35/33 psi), so set the front and rear tires to their own figures rather than one number for all four.

Where do I find my Corolla's correct tire pressure?

The owner's manual says the recommended cold tire inflation pressure and tire size are displayed on the tire and loading information label. Use the figures on your car's label.

What tire size does a 2026 Corolla use?

The 2026 Corolla owner's manual lists three tire sizes: 195/65R15 91S on 15-inch wheels, 205/55R16 91H on 16-inch wheels and 225/40R18 88V on 18-inch wheels, plus a T125/70D17 98M compact spare on a 17-inch wheel.

Should I check tire pressure hot or cold?

Cold. The manual says to check only when the tires are cold: if the car has been parked for at least 3 hours or has not been driven more than 1 mile (1.5 km), you will get an accurate cold reading. It is normal for pressure to be higher after driving, and the manual says not to reduce pressure after driving.

How often should I check my Corolla's tire pressure?

The manual says to check tire inflation pressure every two weeks, or at least once a month, and not to forget the spare. It adds that the tire pressure warning system does not replace routine tire inflation pressure checks.

Why is my Corolla tire pressure light on in cold weather?

The manual says the light may come on due to natural causes such as natural air leaks and tire inflation pressure changes caused by temperature, and that in this case adjusting the tire inflation pressure will turn the light off after a few minutes. Let the tires cool, check each one and adjust them to the specified level.

Is the 2027 Corolla the same?

Yes, on these points. Toyota's 2027 Corolla owner's manual (OM02735U) lists the same three tire and wheel types with the same front and rear pressures, the same 60 psi compact spare, and the same two-week or monthly check advice.

Can Toyota of Fox Lake check my Corolla's tires?

Yes. Our service team in Fox Lake can check and set tire pressures to the figures on your car's label and look over tread and tire condition. See the service hours above or schedule online.
