2026 Land Cruiser Differential Locks: Two Controls, Different Uses
2026 U.S. Land Cruiser 1958 and Land Cruiser grades; Toyota owner manual OM60Y03U.
You do not need to step up from Land Cruiser 1958 just to get center and rear differential locks: both grades include them. The more useful distinction is between the two controls. Toyota gives each its own use and limits.

Know which situation each lock addresses
The center-lock instruction covers wheels stuck in a ditch or driving on a slippery or bumpy surface. For ordinary driving on dry, hard roads, Toyota says to leave the center differential unlocked. It should also be unlocked once the wheels are free or you return to a flat, non-slippery surface.
The rear lock is more specific: Toyota reserves it for wheel spinning in a ditch or on a slippery or ragged surface, and describes it as effective when one rear wheel is spinning. It is not a setting to leave on for the rest of the trip.
The rear lock changes the available assistance
When the rear differential is locked, several driving assists do not operate, including ABS and Vehicle Stability Control. Toyota also limits travel with that lock engaged to 5 mph and says to unlock it as soon as the vehicle gets out. Those consequences belong beside the traction feature on your checklist.
Use a parked handover walkthrough to identify both locking switches and their indicator lights. Have the separate H4/L4 transfer-mode selector identified, too, so the three controls are clear before you need to consult their instructions.
Find your Land Cruiser
With both locks included in either grade, make your grade choice around the other equipment you value. Ask Toyota of Fox Lake to include the locking controls and indicators in your handover explanation. Check current Land Cruiser listings at Toyota of Fox Lake, then confirm the model year, grade, equipment and availability of the vehicle you are considering. This guide covers 2026; current listings may include other model years.
